As we all know Infographics are graphical representation of complex data, in a visually stimulating manner. They present complicated information with illustrative visuals, so that the reader can assimilate the matter easily and quickly. Flow charts, diagrams, maps and other types of images are integral part of most educational programs. And their importance as learning and teaching tools is only growing.
Infographics in education achieve the following goals. Firstly, they help to communicate a message to the audience in a simple, clear manner. Infographics also present large amount of data briefly and meaningfully. How much easier it is to explain supply and demand theory with the help of a proper Infographic instead of a boring text on several pages! Further, Infographics help to reveal hidden data for the reader. Sometimes some data is very challenging and even not at all possible to explain just in words. Finally, a lot of students have a better so called visual memory, i.e. they remember visuals much better than a plain text. So Infographics show such great results probably because they immediately grab reader’s attention and make information look more attractive.
There are different types of Infographics that can be used in education:
- Statistical Infographics
- Informational Infographics
- Process Information
- Timeline Infographics
- Game board metaphor
- Personal preference
etc…
Infographics can be used in books and presentations, educational journals and sites. They are so much beloved by teachers because they are a great tool to use with all grade levels and within different subjects, from literature to physics.
However it is not an obvious task to create a good Infographic. It takes a lot of skills and talent to create one. So be sure to provide your students with plenty of guidance and examples. Or hire professional Infographic designers who will create a great one for you. Good luck!
